This set of vintage cards are almost archytypal of the genre: cute puppies and kittens presented in a whimsical fashion in order to cheer you up. Because who can stay sad in the presence of puppies and kittens? Hang in there Kitty!
Behold, the world's tiniest kitten (look at the size of her compared to a pen!) is personally signing your get well card.
This one has little clear plastic windows embellished with glitter through which you can see the kittens printed on the inside of the card. Which inadvertently gives the unfortunate impression that the kittens are suffering from a serious flea infestation. Poor kitties, they can empathize with your pain.
And this one is hands down my favourite. It is LITERALLY a bag full of kittens. But wait! There's more. Look at the back:
Printed on both sides! But wait! We're still not done yet!
Fold it open for more awesomeness on the interior. Yeah, that's right. Three Kittens. AND yarn. AND a poem. Awesome.
And now on to a couple of puppies:
I love the painterly style of the illustrations. So watercolour-y and sweet. Note how the flowers are only partially outlined in black. Its such a great technique.
And here is the only card featuring an actual photograph. I'm kind of tempted to make these wall eyed little guys my new banner. Those are faces that only a mother could love. Pekinese puppies I think. This was in the day before the ubiquitous tea cup Chihuahua. Its interesting to notice that there are even trends in puppy cuteness. If they were making this card today, these poor little pups would never get cast. The job would go to some smug little French Bulldogs instead.
All right, back tomorrow with more!
