The quilt guild I belong to (The Toronto Modern Quilt Guild) had a pincushion swap this month. The idea being that we all make pincushions and do a blind swap, therefore we each get to have the fun of making something and the fun of getting something new. So this is the one I made: I used a pattern for a puzzle ball from Last Minute Patchwork + Quilted Gifts by Joelle Hoverson. I just made half as many of the little half-circle/elipse units that the pattern called for, that way I had a half sphere that would sit nicely on a sewing table.
I love how sculptural it is, and how bright and fun the colours are. Its also a nice opportunity to use little bits of those special fabrics that I've been saving. You use such a little scrap, but to great advantage.
The Baby had to get in there and point out his favourite.
It also makes a very nice hat. Specifically if you plan on wearing that hat for only a second, and then lurching your body around in a slapstick-y fashion while making a funny face and a 'boiiinnnnggg' noise so that it falls of your head. Its especially good for that.
I wish I had a picture of the pincushion I got in return from the swap, because its also very cute. But its oh-so-late and I have no picture of it on my camera right now, so that will have to wait until tomorrow.
Sweet pincushion!
But I ADORE your description of how to wear it as a hat, should that be one's wont.
