This poor tree must have taken a hit in one of the big storms we had this summer, so it just had this perfect shape for a first time climber. A nice low branch and a good crook to sit in and get a solid foothold. I gave him a boost to get up to that first level. Which was enough for him to start with.
A little toy. Almost everywhere we go he has a toy in his pocket. (Usually a lego man, but lately he's been really into these little cars.) He is SO his father's son in this way. (If any of you know my Hubs personally, you'll know what I mean.) So he just sat comfortably in the crook of the tree and drove his little car around, which made him feel, you know, at home.
It was so good to see him stretch and try something new. He's not the biggest risk taker. Sure, he has his wild moments (he's 5 afer all) and loves to run and yell and be crazy and physical, but he really likes to take his time with new things. He spends a lot of time just assessing a situation and cannot be rushed. (again, so much like his father.) So I was very happy that he was able to take his time and sit in the tree, look around him.....and then, reach higher.
