Took the baby out for a walk today.
My mom and dad, and the baby and my Hubs and I all went out together. We went all through the woods and out to the field behind it. Its gotten cooler, but we haven't got the amazing fall colours that we usually have. Its a little more subdued this year. But still beautiful.
This is my dad (the baby's Grandpa) and Mister Baby in a soybean field, pointing to a helicopter up in the sky. Mr. Baby is very interested in all sorts of transportation - cars, trucks, tractors, bikes, planes, you name it. If it goes 'brmmm' he is interested in it ('brmmm' being his favourite word).
Its so great watching him get interested in more and more things, basically seeing his world expand. I try to take him outdoors at least once a day, and he really likes it. Today was the first time that he picked up leaves and started bringing them to me to keep for him. His first sign of collecting. Oh wait, that's not true, he done it already with rocks on the driveway. Its just the sweetest thing, to see him toddle away and then return with something to press into my hand.
Then he and Grandpa and his daddy were playing 'One, Two, Three, Wheeeee...' a simple game that involves swinging in the air. He loved it. The look of anticipation on his face when he knew the swing was coming up, and the fact that he made this little high-pitched noise to mimic the 'whee' sound were just adorable. Oh, and what's that in my Hubs hand you might wonder...
Why, its an adze of course! Never go out into the forest without your adze. You never know when you'll need it. Hubs made himself this adze by sharpening a garden mattock. Don't ask me what the distinction is, but its kind of a little sharp pick ax. Comes in handy apparently.
And isn't this beautiful? Its a Queen Annes Lace flower gone to seed. It looks like this in the summer:
I must say that this is one of the benefits of country life. When I lived in the city I never really noticed the seasons in as detailed a way as I do out here. It really is lovely to see the change in every aspect of the world around you.

Now I want to go for a walk :)

I miss the country! My sense of personal location, of how I fit in my world, is very tied to landscape and changing seasons. That's what happens when you grow up in the country, I guess. I need to feel I understand the flora, fauna, and weather before I am solidly planted in a place.
