I'm really, really into pattern these days. Not that this is anything new to me, but lately its been on my mind a lot. And so, for no particular reason other than that they are beautiful, I bring you some lovely swatches.
This is a scan of a segment of a vintage bandana/scarf-y thing. Awesome, isn't it. So simple, just red and white, but it really pops. Just goes to show you that you can achieve really great things with just a two colour print.
And how 'bout this. Classic 60's/70's mushroom print. The colours are a bit weird, but very of their time. I really like all the little tiny mushrooms tucked in there.
And this one. This is one of my all time favourites. I don't know if I'll ever be able to 'use' this piece, ie: cut it up and make it into something. Its just so amazing. It makes my eyes swim and somehow has an asian feel to me. It was originally the lining of an awkward square straw purse with wooden handles that I got at a church basement sale in Montreal, but it smelled so much like cat pee (ew) that I had to dismantle it. The straw outer was unsalvageable, but the lovely wooden handles sit waiting for a new use, and this brilliant fabric was easily cleaned and now smells fine. Just goes to show that you gotta really dig for the gems.
