So I got that vintage Sesame Street sheet the other day, and I have had it laying over the back of the couch, waiting for me to figure out what to do with it since then. The baby really likes it, and especially likes the image of Ernie on it, as my Hubs pointed it out to him one day and said "This is Ernie, he goes ****" and proceeded to do a spot on impression of Ernie's signature laugh. You know how it goes. I can't for the life of me figure out how to write it phonetically. Maybe like this? "schee, schee, schee, schee" Anyways, the Baby, being the amazing mimic that he is, started making that sound immediately, and has now enthusiastically added it to his daily repertoire of sound effects. We get up in the morning, go out to the living room, and he goes over to the sheet and pulls on it until he can find Ernie and then point at him and goes "schee, schee, schee, schee". Very, very, cute. So obviously I wanted to make him something Ernie related. I ended up going with this. Around here we call this a Pillowblock. I don't know if such a thing actually exists, I think I made it up. I wanted a way for the Baby to be able to carry Ernie around, but not to make him into a softie exactly. Because I really like the context that the Ernie image is in here, that he is looking out of a little window, and watering the plants that the Doodlebugs live under (they were called Doodlebugs right? Anybody correct me if I'm wrong).
But I wanted the whole thing to be pleasingly chubby and squishable. Not too pillow-like. More block-like. Hence the Pillowblock hybrid. Its about 3 inches deep and 10 inches high. So its a nice size to carry around or to cuddle with. I initially thought to fill it with some kind of foam, but upon reflection, that stuff kind of creeps me out. I for sure don't want to use it for kids stuff, because I don't really know what it is made of, but it smells funny and that can't be a good sign. Probably off-gasses for years. Anyhow, I got a nice density to squishability ratio by cutting and folding multiple layers of 100% cotton quilt batting. And it is also sturdy enough that it can stand up on its own.
As you can see, Mr. Baby has given it his seal of approval. It gets carried around and laid down upon for a cuddle from time to time. But most of all it gets pointed to while saying "schee, schee, schee, schee" just like I though it would.
And because I don't like to make the back of things boring, I cut out another of the windows from the sheet for the back, this one has both Cookie Monster and Maria in it. I'm pretty happy with how the whole thing turned out, given that I didn't have a pattern or anything, just a vague idea.
So here's a sneak-peek of my next little project. Hopefully I'll have it finished tomorrow and can post about it then.
you have a lucky Baby that he gets such fun creative toys :)
and, no, I can't tell what you next project is yet.

Tweedlebugs. (We have a Sesame Street book about big and little things, so naturally they're in it. I think you're getting confused with the Doodlebops.)

haha, you are right Amanda. I'm so glad that someone knows that. I like the Tweedlebugs a million times better than the Doodlebops, and the two should never be confused ;)
