I just wanted to show you a little sewing that I did in preparation for the Baby's birthday, but didn't have time to post about in all the hubub.
I've always seen these in pictures and drawings and thought they looked so pretty. But I had no idea what they were called. 'Pennants' I guessed, or 'banners' or something like that. But apparently, they are called 'bunting'.
Anyhow, I wanted to make these and use them to start some of our family celebration traditions. I prefer to have something for birthdays to decorate with that I made myself, and that doesn't look cheap as so many of the party decorations you can buy at stores do. Also, in an effort to think of the future of my child, and not just the present that we are celebrating, I wanted something that doesn't get thrown out, and that we can use again and again. Both cheaper and more environmentally friendly. So that's a win-win in my books. They're also all made from my stash of vintage fabric, which makes them very bright and fun. And I'm hoping that these will add to the air of excitement that happens as birthday party preparations start each year - when they get pulled out of the cupboard, that means a birthday is almost here.
I'm really pleased with the way they turned out. I used an online tutorial that I found at the Joyful Ablode blog, and just tweaked it a little (I made my triangles a little longer and thinner). Its a very good tutorial; clear and easy to follow. And here they are hung up and looking festive.
It was also very gratifying that the baby noticed them, and pointed and smiled. Warms a mother's heart, I tell you!
Those are FANTASTIC.
I like those. A lot.

Thanks you lot, for the kind words, and birthday wishes. Also, codger, I love that fabric too. I also have it in the reverse (white on navy) and its all from one little pillowcase and of course its almost gone. I would kill to find another one.
