Its very, very late on Christmas Eve. The little boys are asleep, with visions of sugar-plums yada yada. The stockings have been hung and filled, the presents are wrapped and under the tree. Relatives and friends have been called and well-wished, and now I am almost ready to join the kids in that sweet sugar-plum filled slumber, but first I just wanted to share this drawing that the Little Dude made for Christmas.
Can you make it out? Let me help interpret. Its the Nativity (obviously). That large central character is, and I'm quoting L.D. here "a skeleton robot having a baby." When pressed for details he explained "Its Jesus' Mom. That's Baby Jesus inside." Note that ladder like portion in the middle; that is Skeleton Robot Mary's spine. And up there at the top inside is the Baby Jesus. And the balls at the end of her appendages are "her crashers". For crushing things I suppose. (should come in handy when Herod comes around, or when the olives need pressing) Over on the right there, that's Joseph. Not quite as imposingly impressive as the Blessed Virgin, but present none the less. I find it interesting that aside from the fact that Mary is a Robot he's following the visual tradition of Western Artwork on this subject to a tee, at least in terms of composition. Central imposing Mary, surrounding central Baby Jesus. Joseph off to the side. From Bruegel to Botticelli to my four-year-old boy, consistent visual traditions. Who knew?
And now on a different note, let me take a moment to thank you all for coming by and reading here from time to time. I really appreciate your presence in this space. Thanks so much for sharing your time and letting me share my thoughts and stories with you. I hope you all get to enjoy your holiday in whatever way suits you best, and I look forward to seeing you back here in a couple of days.
Warmest wishes to you all! And now I must go to sleep, for I know that early, early I will awake to the sound of my door creaking open and little footsteps padding up to my bedside to let me know that the long awaited day has come. Merry Christmas to you all!
Hope you had a wonderful Christmas Day with your family. Many blessings for 2013!
